Thailand kicked off their Women’s Asia Cup 2024 campaign with a bang, defeating Malaysia by 22 runs in an electrifying match at Dambulla. Opting to bat first, Thailand posted a competitive 133/6, thanks to Nannapat Koncharoenkai’s brilliant 40 off 35 balls. Malaysia’s Mahirah Izzati Ismail was the standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets for 16 runs.

In response, Malaysia couldn’t quite keep up the pace. Captain Winifred Duraisingam scored a valiant 22, and Wan Julia put up a fight with 52 off 53 balls, but it wasn’t enough to chase down the target. Thailand’s bowlers were on point, with Onnicha Kamchomphu taking 2 wickets for 20 runs and Chanida Sutthiruang keeping it tight with 1 for 12. Despite a spirited effort, Malaysia finished at 111/8 in their 20 overs.

Nannapat Koncharoenkai’s all-round performance earned her the Player of the Match award. With this win, Thailand have set the tone for their tournament, blending aggressive batting and disciplined bowling to perfection. Watch out for more fireworks from this dynamic team as the Asia Cup heats up!
