Sri Lanka cruised to a dominant 10-wicket victory over Thailand in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, with Chamari Athapaththu leading from the front. Sri Lanka restricted Thailand to a modest 93/7 in their 20 overs. Nannapat Koncharoenkai stood tall for Thailand with an unbeaten 47 off 53 balls, but
wickets fell regularly around her. Kavisha Dilhari and Chamari Athapaththu starred with the ball, taking 2/13 and 1/15 respectively.
Chasing a target of 94, Sri Lanka’s openers, Vishmi Gunaratne and Athapaththu, made light work of the task, reaching 94/0 in just 11.3 overs. Gunaratne scored a steady 39 off 34 balls, while Athapaththu dazzled with 49 not out off 35 balls, including 4 sixes and 2 fours. Their unbeaten partnership ensured Sri Lanka’s emphatic victory with 51 balls to spare.
Chamari Athapaththu’s all-round brilliance earned her the Player of the Match award. This win not only reinforces Sri Lanka Women’s strong form in the tournament but also secures their spot in the semifinals, where they will face Pakistan.
