Amsterdam / Bangkok, November 3, 2022 — The Dutch women’s team will play eight matches in and against Thailand from 20 November to 3 December 2022. The venue will be the Prem Tinsulanonda International School in Chiangmai. Under the leadership of Heather Siegers, who has recovered from an injury, the Netherlands will play four One Day Internationals and four T20Is against the host country.
Thailand participated in the T20 World Cup in Australia for the first time in 2020. The Netherlands participated in the World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe in 2021 where it competed well with Ireland and Sri Lanka. Both Thailand and the Netherlands received ODI status from the ICC as of 1 May 2022, together with the United States, Scotland and Papua New Guinea.
Shan Kader, Cricket Association of Thailand Development Manager, comments: “The Cricket Association of Thailand will be delighted to host the Netherlands in Thailand’s inaugural ODI series in Chiangmai. I’m sure it will be a fantastic series.”
Shane Deitz, Dutch national womens coach: “The Dutch team is very excited about this tour to Thailand. It is a great opportunity to play one of the top performing teams in world cricket. It will be a hard test for us; we are looking forward to it as you want to have the opportunities to test your skills and development against a top team.”
“Thailand are ranked 12th and we are ranked 19th in T20I’s so we will go in as underdogs which will allow us to play with freedom and express ourselves.”
“We welcome back our captain Heather Siegers and Sterre Kalis who are two huge inclusions to our squad that will strengthen our batting in particular. Heather is a great leader and dangerous player and Sterre is a proven world class player so we are excited to have them back in the team.”
“It was a tough selection which means we are creating good depth and competition for places which in the long term is what all good teams need to have. We have worked really hard since the end of the European summer and can’t wait to get on the plane and visit such a beautiful country as Thailand.”
