Exciting times for Thailand men’s cricket team as they have just arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and are preparing to play in their first ever official T20 International series. It is a tri-series staged by the Malaysian Cricket Association at the top class Kinrara Stadium. Malaysia, Thailand and Maldives are taking part with the three teams playing each other twice in the space of six days.
The competition gets underway on Monday 24th June when Thailand face hosts Malaysia in what will be the Thailand men’s team’s first ever official T20 International.. The teams last faced each other during the ICC T20 World Cup Asian Qualifier when the match was ended by rain and Malaysia finished just above Thailand in the points table to reach the next stage of T20 World Cup qualifying. Maldives used to visit Thailand regularly for ACC competitions but have recently been competing in Western Region events while Thailand have been in the Eastern Region.
Thailand are captained by Vichanath Singh and the squad is a mixture of young Thai cricketers and expat players who have recently been taking part in the CAT T20 competition. Thailand will play a total of four competitive matches and this will help them build their T20 International ranking and prepare for future ICC and ACC competitions. Nopphon Senamontree and Wanchana Uisuk, two of the leading Thai cricketers, are not available as they are bringing the Thailand U19 team to Malaysia compete in an ACC tournament starting next week.
Thailand Squad: Vichanath Singh (captain), Kiatiwut Suttisan, Kamron Senamontree, Chanchai Pengkumta, Sittipong Honsi, Daniel Jacobs, Henno Jordaan, Nick Janes, Shafiqul Haque, Ziaul Hoque, Anowarul Islam, Naveed Pathan, Mahsid Faheem
